The world we live in today needs support now more than ever, and it starts with your daily habits. Doing these four simple things will help keep emissions down and allow our planet to thrive as it should!
HABIT 1: RECYCLING ALL GLASS AND PLASTIC
This seems self explanatory but how many times have you seen an empty milk carton or a glass bottle at home and just thrown it into one kitchen bin carelessly? Probably more than you think. By having separate bins and building a habit of recycling your used tins and plastic bottles, you ensure that they will have a second life rather than slowly rotting away in landfills.
HABIT 2: BUYING SECOND-HAND CLOTHING
10% of the world’s CO2 emissions is through fast-fashion clothing. Choose to buy second hand clothing to give them a second life and limit the amount of clothes going to landfill after trends die out. With less and less people to purchase these items, the businesses producing them will slowly die out – thus less production, less transport and less going to landfills!
HABIT 3: CHOOSE PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Transportation accounts for around 30% of global emissions, with a whopping 72% of this coming from cars! Opting for a more thoughtful option of transport like trains for a weekend trip or choosing to cycle to work can help tremendously! Cutting down air-miles is also a good tip for anyone who is a frequent flyer. Choosing a weekend break in the country or a nature walk instead can help cut down emissions!
HABIT 4: CONSUME LESS IN GENERAL
The most effective habit of all is to simply… consume less! By buying only essential foods, essential clothing or household items and using up all your already owned skincare products before buying more is the best way to stay sustainable. Inevitably, if we all thought this way then this results in less manufacturing and transport to deliver items we don’t really need (atleast for now).
